Last week I played bass on a tune written by my friends Kat Edmonson and Kevin Lovejoy. They wrote the tune hoping that it would inspire those who heard it to participate in making a positive change in this world, not only in politics but in a broader humanitarian sense. They also made a cool video to illustrate their message. I hope the music inspires you to participate in making change for the better. I'll be posting the tune on my MYSpace page shortly. For now, enjoy the video linked below.
I felt truly humbled and inspired to be working with such a talented pool of musicians. We recorded the tune at Treefort Studios here in Austin, Texas. Treefort is an amazing studio that has recording equipment dating from the 1950's all the way to the 21st century. Very cool indeed.

Kat Edmonson - Vocals
Kevin Lovejoy - Keyboards
JJ Johnson - Drums
Ephraim Owens - Trumpet
Billy Cassis - Guitar
JZ - Bass

Enjoy!

I am going to be teaching a Master Class at the Lone Star School of Music. During the class I'll be talking about a variety of topics, including bass playing fundamentals but mostly emphasizing how to create good bass lines. It is free and open to the general public. I am a current faculty member at the school and this formal clinic will be an introduction to an on-going group class that will meet weekly at the school starting in August. There will be opportunities for questions/answers during and after the Master Class. The APPEARANCES page has all of the details. Hope to see you on July 29th.

I recently played with Austin's psychedelic fuzz gods TIA CARRERA for the Sweatbox Studio Grand reOpening Bash. Below is a photo album from the event which celebrated the reopening of the studio after the original location was destroyed in a fire last year. Thanks to TIA CARRERA and their bassist Andrew Duplantis for inviting me to sit-in and make the low flow. Enjoy...
